A Personal message from Mark Miller, Director of Goodfoot
We formed Goodfoot in 1998 with a very specific purpose. The aim was to provide training that works, training
that doesn’t just provide an enjoyable experience in the classroom but also gets results for the business.
My personal background was Project Management, working in one of the major pharmaceutical companies in the U.K., and in order to survive, I had to get things done. I had made many mistakes of course and learned along the way. At Goodfoot we are very tolerant of mistakes, though not tolerant if they don’t get fixed.
We were determined to use colleagues we had worked with over the years who had a proven track record in business and weren’t just ‘professional trainers’. We would rather take someone with an excellent business background and teach the training delivery skills than just employ trainers. The anecdotes, stories, experiences, mistakes, all go to make the advice given realistic and relevant.
In the early startup days it was tough, hitting the phones to let people know what we do and how we do it. A lot of effort in publicity and selling. As we built our client base then of course sales started to come from referral, and that is now our main source of business. Now we are too busy to advertise, which is all credit to the team who deliver our training.
We frequently operate at Board level, for example for clients who require assistance for managing large Bids and presenting their Bid well. Recently we successfully worked with a client on a bid that is worth over a billion dollars to them.
The best reward in the world is when people leave a course saying it made a difference. Working life is demanding, but it’s amazing how a few sensible techniques from wise experienced heads can make that working life enjoyable and productive despite the pressure.
It’s has been a great journey, and we have worked with some fantastic clients, in the U.K., Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. Thank you for taking the time to read this, it’s great working in this business, long may it continue, and we hope very much that we can have opportunity to work with you.
