Too late for the underground

Too late for the Underground!

Just before off-peak travel is available on the London Underground, the people affectionately known as the “twirlies” turn up asking staff if they are “too early” for off-peak travel.

It is never “too early” for an organisation to put in place a development programme for colleagues at all levels. Statistics tell us staff who are not developed will look elsewhere. In this current challenging labour market, organisations who fail to develop their people will lose colleagues.

Some will be colleagues who are like passengers but critically many will be those colleagues who are the drivers of organisational success.

Accredited development, against nationally recognised standards helps gain and retain key colleagues for the organisation. It adds value and kudos to in-house activity and rewards the effort made by colleagues through certification. This increases colleague commitment and motivation which in turn increases the cost effectiveness of delivery.

As with the London Underground, with accredited development, there are different routes organisations can take to get to their desired destination. Leaving it “too late” to start planning that route will impact upon an organisation’s ability to drive their business forward.

Sometimes it is better to be “twirley”.
